A Dominant Church: The Diocese of Achonry 1818-1960

This book traces the story of Achonry, in Sligo, through the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries, highlighting, despite its remoteness, the local participation in the great national movements from the Tithe War and the Great Famine, to World War I, the Black and Tan War, and the Civil War. It was at the very heart of the Land War and produced such notables as Edward Duffy, Michael Davitt, John Dillon, Fr. Denis O'Hara and Anne Deane.
