Understanding the Mass: Historical, Biblical, Theological, and Liturgical Perspectives

This book throws light on the Mass by means of historical, biblical, theological, and liturgical insights. The author gives a summary of the history of the Christian Eucharist from the Last Supper until the present, taking note of Jewish, Greek, Roman and other influences on it. There is also an overview showing how deeply rooted the Mass is in the Bible and in the theology of the early Church. This book likewise looks at the liturgical norms governing the celebration of Mass. The text of the Mass is given attentive treatment. At times examples are given of the many things done by priests and bishops in the celebration of Mass that are not liturgically correct, lacking any basis in the liturgical norms. These correctives are important because these mistaken practices can get passed on to young priests through the example of older priests and bishops.
