Buddy Smith built his law practice around tracking down missing children. And that's because he knows the agony of being separated from his own child. When he was in high school, he fathered a daughter, but not long after the baby's birth, her mother ran away and Buddy hasn't seen either of them in nearly eighteen years.
Connie Blaylock has known Buddy her entire life, and now that she is Clerk of Court, their paths cross whenever Buddy brings a case in front of a judge. As the coach of the town's summer league softball team, she knows about teen girl drama; but when she hears that one of her former players, Reagan, has gone missing, she knows it's time to bring Buddy in on the case.
Buddy knows there's a good chance Reagan is a runaway, but her parents are desperate for answers. Together with Connie and Mayleah, the new detective in town, Buddy chases all leads, hoping to reach Reagan before it's too late. And as he pursues one teen girl, he stumbles across clues that just may bring him to the one girl he hasn't stopped thinking about: his own daughter.
