Will forgiveness bring Anna another chance for love?
At twenty-five years of age, Anna Ebersol has never married. Five years earlier her parents had convinced her to break off her courtship with Eli Wengard, the youngest son in the Wengard family and her best friend, Emma's, older brother who wanted to be a contract pig farmer. Anna's parents knew that life on a pig farm was very difficult. When she broke off the courtship, a distraught Eli moved away from Lancaster County.
Anna is sent to Berlin, Ohio, to visit with relatives when she comes across Eli, the owner of the largest dairy farm in the church district. He has neither married nor has he forgiven Anna. During her stay in Berlin, she discovers that Eli is courting several young women, and she is determined to get herself invited for a buggy ride with her former beau. She spends the rest of her visit trying to convince Eli that she still loves him, not on account of his wealth, but because she simply never stopped loving him. When Anna is injured in a buggy accident, Eli realizes that he too still has feelings for her and confesses that he has never stopped loving her either.
