The Holy Eucharist is the center and source of the Church's life. It is described by many terms. It is called the Eucharist, because it is an action of thanksgiving; the Breaking of the Bread, because Jesus offers his blessings through these signs; the Holy Sacrifice, because it recalls the sacrifice of Jesus for us; Holy Communion because it unites us to Christ; Holy Mass, because it sends us forth to do God's will in our daily lives. Like the manna once given to the Israelites in the desert, the Eucharist is food for our spiritual journey.
