"True fear and trembling at the word is that which will settle the heart and strengthen the heart against all other fears."
--Jeremiah Burroughs
The Fear of God is nearly nonexistent in our day. Between the prevalence of atheism outside of the church and unholiness within it, Paul's words in Romans 3:18 ring eerily true: "There is no fear of God before their eyes." Only by recapturing Isaiah's vision of our thrice holy God can we bring this fear back into our homes, churches, and nations.
In this volume of the Gospel Life series, Jeremiah Burroughs addresses the importance of having a reverence for God's word. Drawing on Isaiah's prophecy that God will favor those who tremble at His word (Isaiah 66:2), Burroughs reminds us that we must maintain tender hearts to receive the blessing of a deeper fear of God.
