This second sketch picks up later in the "Last Supper" scene. Thomas expresses concern that Jesus didn't exploit the opportunities the masses' enthusiasm offered him. Mary agrees, adding the warning that word on the street is he's soon to be betrayed. Jesus, of course, knows all this, but takes it one step further-one of them will be the betrayer. After all deny this (Peter most vehemently), Jesus explains their need to abide in him to bear fruit. Tension breaks out between Peter and Thomas over the "number two spot," but Jesus adds to his prediction of his betrayal the warning to peter that he will deny him. Once again, Jesus returns to the "servant" theme and ends with the establishment of the Eucharist as Judas slips out to seal both their fates.
